How Do You Use the Smiley Daisy Essential Oil Diffuser - the Pyramid?

How Do You Clean/Maintain the Smiley Daisy Essential Oil Diffuser - the Pyramid?

Does it automatically shut down when the water supply is low? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

Yes, the Smiley Daisy essential oil diffuser comes with auto-shutoff capabilities. When there is no water left in the tank or if you forget to turn the unit off, the diffuser will automatically shut down. If there is no water in the tank, pressing the mist button will cause the unit to ‘beep’ three times to remind you to add water. The unit will not work without water. (The Hibiscus model will still have about 60 -80 ml of water in the tank when it shuts off, due to the flat bottom of the tank.)

Is the diffuser a plug in device or battery operated? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

The diffuser is a plug-in unit. You can power the unit with an electric socket. An AC adapter is provided. This AC adapter accepts 100-240 volts power input.

Do the diffusers come with essential oils?

No, none of the Smiley Daisy essential oil diffusers come with essential oils. They are sold separately. You can find our brand, JuJu Aroma essential oils available for purchase on our web site. You can also use your favorite brand of essential oils.

Is this glass or plastic? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

The outer cover of the Daisy and Hibiscus models is made of polypropylene (PP). The lower base of the Daisy, Hibiscus and Love in a Mist is made of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). Both materials are safe for all types of 100% essential oils.

Can it be used with just water to be a humidifier? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

Yes – The Smiley Daisy diffuser can be used as both an essential oil diffuser and humidifier. If you would like to use its aromatherapy effect, use 2-3 drops of essential oils per 100ML water. If you don’t put essential oils into the water tank, the unit can be used as a small humidifier.

Do Smiley Daisy diffusers use heat to make the mist? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

No, our diffuserd do not use heat to make the mist/vapor. Smiley Daisy uses advanced ultrasonic vibration at approximately 2.4MHz to disperse the water and oils into the air. It utilizes electronic frequencies to cause a small disk under the surface of a liquid (usually water) to vibrate at a very fast rate. These ultrasonic vibrations break the essential oil into tiny micro particles, dispersing the oil in a fine mist. These tiny particles are more easily absorbed by your lungs for a greater therapeutic effect on your body, mind, and spirit. It depends solely on the air current already in the room to disperse the mist throughout the room. For those who desire only a small amount of oil to be diffused in a room, this type of ultra sonic diffuser not only works well but can be very beautiful too.

The product descriptions say the diffusers have lights that change between seven colors. Which colors does it use? Can you select just one color or does it change? (Daisy, Hibiscus or LIAM)

The colors that Smiley Daisy essential oil diffusers use is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink. When you press the “LIGHT” button once, it can alternate colors like a slideshow. When you press the “LIGHT” button again, it can ‘fix’ on one color. Each color has two brightness options. Generally, when you press the “LIGHT” button the first time, it’s on the dim setting. When you press it again, it will turn bright and “neon”. If you prefer not to use the lights you can scroll all the way through or hold the "LIGHT" button down until it turns off.

Can you use your own cologne or perfume instead of the oils?

We recommend the use of only 100% natural essential oil in our diffusers. Perfumes, Colognes and Candle Oils can contain chemical fragrance, spices, or impurities that will cause malfunctioning or clogging to the diffuser. You can do damage to the ultra-sonic disc  Also you will be breathing in tiny micro-particles of the oil which includes whatever other ingredients are present. Those ingredients can possible be harmful to you. Read the label on the bottle to check for other ingredients before using oils.

Can you use citrus essential oil in this diffuser?

Yes, the upper part of the diffuser is made of PP (polypropylene), which is used as container material for yogurt/sour cream tubs, ketchup bottles, and medicine bottles. When using Citrus essential oil, make sure to use room temperature water (NOT hot water) in the diffuser water tank.

How do you clean the diffuser? (Daisy, Hibiscus & LIAM)

After using 5-6 times, or 2-3 days, please clean the product as follows. Can be used for all ultra-sonic models.

  1. Before cleaning your diffuser always turn the unit off and unplug the cord from the diffuser.
  2. Fill the water tank with 100ml of water and one tablespoon of citric acid (sour salt) or two tablespoons white vinegar.
  3. Let the mixture soak for about 5 minutes (it can be longer if the unit is really dirty)
  4. Take a q-tip and lightly scrub the ultrasonic vibration plate (little disc inside the tank)
  5. Take a paper towel and wipe the solution all around the inside of the tank to clean the oil residue off the inside of the tank.
  6. The plastic liner or plastic insert can be gently pulled out of the Daisy or Hibiscus model. You can use this solution soaked paper towel to wipe the outside edges of the tank and the plastic inserts inside the lid and the lid itself. This will help keep the lid from getting dirty or sticky from the oil and condensation.
  7. Pour out the cleaning solution.
  8. Rinse out the tank and lid parts with water and dry thoroughly with a paper towel.
  9. DO NOT FORGETto place the lid inserts back into the lid.  This is the most common cause of units leaking. The inserts are what release the mist and must be in the lid.

How often should it be cleaned?  If I use different scented oils in back-to-back sessions will the residue from the previous oil affect the odor of the current scent I am using?  Is it recommended that the devise be cleaned before using different scented oil?

The diffuser should be cleaned every 3 - 4 days of use for sanitation and functioning purposes. In areas where you are using hard water, clean often, as mineral build up can cause clogging in the tank.

If you are using different scented oils, we would recommend cleaning it before switching to the next scented oil.  The residue will affect other scents.

Remember to only use 100% essential oils on this diffuser, it should not be blended oils with carrier oils, because carrier oils will clog the diffuser and cause malfunctioning. Please see your essential oil bottle for the detailed list of ingredients the oil is made of.

For the Hibiscus model, how do you clean the liner of the top cover?

The Hibiscus model has a liner directly attached to the inside of the outer cover. To clean the liner, gently remove it and clean it the way you clean the water tank.

The surface of the outer cover of the Hibiscus model is too slippery to pull out, any tips?

All you need to do is put your index finger inside the mist hole and pull the outer cover up from the water tank.

My Hibiscus diffuser auto-shuts off when there is still 60 - 80 ml of water left in the water reservoir. Will I waste too much essential oil?

Due to the oval shape and flat bed of the diffuser, when water reduces to a certain level (60 – 80 ml), the water cannot flow into the ultrasonic disc pocket, which causes the water bubbles come up, leading to the diffuser stopping. A water sensor lies right beneath the disc, so when no water is inside the disc pocket, it will shut the diffuser down for safety reasons.

For ultrasonic diffusers, most of the aroma will be dispersed within the first hour or two because of the density and volatile properties of the oils. A very little amount of oils stay in the water reservoir when the diffuser auto shuts off. If the water is still fairly fresh, adding more water into the reservoir and using it for the next time will be fine. Otherwise, it is better to dump out the remaining water and pour in fresh water for sanitary purposes.

My Daisy started leaking all over the place and won’t mist anymore, what should I do?

Most cases that cause the Daisy model to leak have to do with the lid insert being left out or not in right.  Please look inside the top of the lid and make sure that the plastic piece is still inside the lid (picture on left).  When you have cleaned it or if it just came lose it may have been left out or fallen out (picture on right is missing the piece). Please check the area where you cleaned it or the floor where you keep the diffuser.  Make sure to reinsert the insert into the lid. If the piece is still in the lid pop it out and reinsert it into the lid. Make sure you hear it snap in.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make the scent last longer?

Most people add the water to the diffuser using the measuring cup and then add the oil so the oil is sitting on top of the water.  Some of our loyal customers have suggested that these methods have worked for them to make the scent last longer.  Be careful not to spill the water and oil.  1. Try gently stirring the oil in the water with a plastic stirrer or spoon, be careful not to scratch the ultrasonic disc or spill the water and oil over the edge of the tank. 2. Combine the water measured with the cup and oil drops in a sealed container and shake it really good and then pour it into the tank. These suggestions will disburse the oil in the water and tank a little more than the oil sitting on top of the water.  Note: Keep in mind that oil will still disburse faster than water due to its properties and will still eventually rise to the top of the tank.
